Chris Johnson sustained a Spinal Cord Injury at the age of 17 following a road traffic accident. He broke his neck at C6 which left him totally paralysed below this injury level. The level of injury meant that not only his muscles, sensation and the majority of his respiratory muscles were affected but also some autonomic function.

6 years following his Spinal Cord Injury, Chris Johnson was introduced to wheelchair sports and started playing wheelchair rugby and tennis going onto an exceptional career in wheelchair tennis.

Chris Johnson represented Great Britain at Wheelchair Tennis for over 10 years, winning 2 World Team Cups, which are equivalent to the Davis Cup and Fed Cups.

Achievements
He was awarded the 'Jim Cochrane Award' in 2008 which recognised his outstanding contribution to Wheelchair Tennis and was also awarded the 'Dan Maskall Award' which recognised his achievements as the most improved player by his peers.​ Chris achieved a career high of number 9 in the World in the Quad division. This was a major achievement due to his high level of disability.​ ​
For over 10 years Chris travelled the world on the ITF Wheelchair Tennis Tour, competing in countries/continents such as New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, America, Brazil, Europe and tournaments in the UK.
